Give Back Tuesday 💚

Here at Upstreet, we’ve always been about community. Whether it’s being a place for people to gather, supporting the arts or collaborating with other local businesses, we do our absolute best to keep Islanders at the forefront of all things Upstreet. It makes our hearts happy.

A few months ago, we began an initiative called Give Back Tuesday. Inspired by Giving Tuesday, a day in November that is known as the world’s largest generosity movement, we wanted to put an Upstreet spin on it, make it our own and give back to the community in some way. Here’s what we came up with:

At the beginning of a month, we choose an organization or charity that we align with, and that we want to give back to. We begin collecting a portion of the proceeds from every pint or Rewind poured from our taps at the taproom and Craft Beer Corner, every single Tuesday of the month. Then, we give it back!

So far, we’ve gotten to donate to some really amazing groups- The UPEI and Holland College Student Food Banks, the Cat ACTION Team PEI and the Medical Chapter of Global Brigades at UPEI.

This January, we’ve selected the community fridge as our donation of choice. This time of year, food security is more important than ever.

The PEI Community Fridge facilitates access to safe and nutritious food for the community. It is a 24/7 autonomous and accessible outdoor space where people can take what they need and give what they can – no questions asked. The fridges are open to all, promoting inclusivity and dignity, with anyone being able to give and receive. The project is not charity-led and reflects the values of dignity, inclusion, and accessibility. Everyone has their part to play, and the foundation for the project is built on neighbours supporting neighbours. Volunteers run the fridges entirely, promoting a sense of community as people come together to get produce, stock the fridge, and organize events. The purpose of the community fridge is to increase access to food, reduce food waste, and increase community involvement.

With all the money we collect, we will be using it to purchase food from the fridge’s need list and stocking it up. You can help by coming to the taproom or CBC and having a beverage with us any Tuesday of this month, and/or by pitching in some food to the fridge yourself.

If you have an organization, group or charity in mind that you’d like to nominate for next month, please email jaz@upstreet.ca.

Help us give back, Charlottetown!Â
